Best rower?
I know we always debate which is the best rower so I thought you may like to see the Mens Fitness magazine Test. The top 3 were as you'd expect: WaterRower; Fluid Rower; and Concept 2. Below is a bit about what they said and the overall score.
Concept 2 "It has easily the best computer, ....it provides the best range of resistances" 4/5
WaterRower "It's designed to mimic real rowing, which is great for the real rowing 'purist'" Score 4/5
Fluid Rower "It's smooth to row, with the stroke requiring a constant application of force, just as real rowing. Solid build inspires confidence" 5/5 - BEST BUY!
There's no set criteria to their test, just overall opinion and results. As you'd expect for Mens Fitness though they do mention the aesthetic appeal of the WaterRower and I know some would say "What has looks got to do with it?" Which I tend to agree with.

P.S. I don't generally read Mens Fitness - it was in the shop.

Re: Best rower?
I should add that in view of various pricing "restrictions" imposed on us, we are currently doing all rower/workout monitor models with a free heart-rate reciever box & chest strap which allows heart rate function of workout monitor to be utilsed.
This gives a saving of over £70 if the HRM kit was to be purchased seperately!
or - If you dont want the HRM kit as a freeby give us a phone call in the shop on 0117 982 3397 and we'll be able to sort out something price wise.

Re: Best rower?
Pete also has a WaterRower. I prefer circuit training or cycling for my cardio, but it is a good piece of kit.

Re: Best rower?
WaterRower have just released their Series IV (S4) monitor. It should help them against the competition as the monitor was probably it's biggest failing in the past. If they could have a resistance setting next like on the Fluid Rower it'd be better still.
The main difference between this and the older Series III monitor are that this monitors more accurate (according to WaterRower). Nick at WaterRower believes the key elements in making this monitor succesfull is that it offers a 500m split program and a calorie counter.
Reading through the S4 guide I'm probably more impressed that you can store workout settings, AutoStore automatically stores the last nine program settins and you can also manually store settings.
The bad news is that all of this comes at a price. The new monitor will add an extra £25 on to SRP when bought with a WaterRower. A monitor by its self SRP £175. We'll of course be cheaper!
Worse news than that , if you've got an older model monitor and you want to upgrade to the Series IV monitor then the whole of the drum section needs to be removed and sent to WaterRower as they'd need to drill the unit and change some of its components to make it compatible. WaterRower have advised us that they'll do the work for free, but the customer would need to pay postage costs. Include that in to the cost of the new monitor and you're much better off sticking with the Series III monitor.
We'll be receiving our new WaterRower and Series IV (S4) monitor in to the shop soon, so we'll let you know what we think.

Re: Best rower?
The WaterRower with new S4 monitor is now up and running in the shop. I wasn't very impressed with the extra features when I read the S4 book before its arrival. However, now I've seen and used it, the new S4 monitor is 100 times better. The former S3 monitor looked and operated like a cheap alarm clock whereas this is much more pleasurable to use. GOOD JOB WATERROWER!!
