Support Networks
Anybody got any ideas as to how many support networks and groups are availaable for adult survivors in the UK. Anybody know where there is a register? Anybody know how much is spent on survivors? Anybody ever known a doctor to be linked or even been able to give advice on groups etc. This would be really helpful information as I am trying to prove a point here! Lets get going because we have some surviving to do and a world to wake up. Every time we are sad, down, lonely, desperate or suicidal - the abuser wins. My love, thoughts and prayers are with the still suffering. Best wishes and come on respond with some information! Stuart Howarth Author Please Daddy No www.stuarthowarth.co.uk |

Hi Stuart, You are quite right, accessing help is somewhat Kafkaesque both in it's complexity and lack of availability. Although not strictly related to CSA, a disproportionate number of our callers at NACOA report abuse issues. Last year 75% + of our callers were under 18. It's like talking about parental/caregivers drinking provides the window to open up about other issues. As I'm sure you know, a disproportionate number of abusers committed their first acts of abuse under the influence of drink or drugs. Webiste is: http://www.nacoa.org.uk Helpline no is:- 0800 358 3456 Sadly, due to lack of resources, the helpline is not manned 24/7. However the volunteers are extremely well trained and will do their very best to be helpful, including giving information on how to get specialist help elsewhere. As a Samaritan volunteer, we get a lot of calls regarding CSA. Most Samaritan branches would welcome an outside speaker coming to give them a talk on handling a CSA call as part of SAMS on-going training. (We all have to do a minimum of 7 hours a year) Perhaps all forum members might like to think about this and maybe contact their local Samaritan branch? Happy New Year, and keep up your great work. hi i do to feel there is lack of support for historicle child abuse. as i am one of them i found that i had no where to turn to find someone who really understands what i am going; and what im feeling i really would like to set up a support group in carlisle as it will help me as well as others. reading stuarts book gave me the confidence to speak out and do something about it after 30 years like him it ruined my relationships like him i thought it was it normal like him i got beatings and left to sleep in wet beds. i suffered in silence for 30 years but now im faceing my demons and trying to prosecute im now on the way to recovery but i no i have a long long long way to go. |
