Soultone Artist Support
Hi to all! We just returned from California, where The Dan Bodanis Band recorded another CD. (release date TBA) This time we chose to record at Dave Weckl's studio in Woodland Hills and had the blessed fortune of having Mr. Weckl Engineer and Produce the CD. Not only is Dave one of the best drummers to ever embrace a drumstick, he is equally proficient as an Engineer and Producer. Dave Weckl is the consumate professional musician! Everything he does, he does with perfection. Nothing less is acceptable! The guy is amazing! What an inspiration! When I got to LA, I needed a few cymbals to fill out the sounds required for the session. I cannot begin to tell you how pleased I was with all the help I received from Iki Levy. For those of you who have yet to have the good fortune of meeting Iki, I will tell you that he is not only the president and owner of Soultone Cymbals and DC California Drums, he is also one of the top drummers/programmers/producers/ and studio owners in LA! On day one in the studio, Iki was there with his son Dean, who also happens to be an excellent drummer and a very nice guy, and he provided me with the perfect combination of cymbals required to put a fine point on the sound we were looking for. The Soultone Cymbals (exclusive use) sounded soooo musical! I can't wait for you to hear them on the record! They were the perfect cymbals for the project and frankly, I could not imagine any cymbals sounding better! At the end of the week, once we finished the CD, we went to Iki's showroom to drop off the cymbals. Every drummer should have the experience of visiting him in his drum studio/showroom! It is truly a "drummer's paradise!" We arrived late in the day on Friday, and I could not stay anywhere near as long as I would have liked to because Chad Wackerman (Drum God!)was kind enough to put me on the guest list that night at the Baked Potato in North Hollywood, where he was playing with Guitar Genius Alan Holdsworth, and Bass Virtuoso: Jimmy Johnson, but I've got to tell you, that the hospitality and courtesy extended to me by Iki, his wife Tamara, Daughter Noa, and friend Sima, was so sincerely beautiful, that I wish I could have spent a week with them! In all, Iki really helped to make our experience in LA a true life enhancing event! Of course, I also have to say that playing with Uber-KeyBoard Genius: Mitch Forman (.com) and Dave Weckl's sax (monster)player: Gary Meek, certainly made for the most incredible musical experience of my life. Thanks for everything Iki! Dan Bodanis www.thedanbodanisband.com |
