Kit Insurance

Thought i should just let you all know about this one.
Recently some of the guys were away on a detachment in america and they had their minibus stolen.
Their kit was stashed under the seats and the minibus had blacked out windows so no kit could be seen from the outside. They stopped for a meal and the whole lot were stolen, minibus and kit.
They got back to the UK and went to claim on the insurance they have been paying for over the last however many years whilst they have been serving and were told they could not claim.
They were also told that if they have kit stored on the outside of a military vehicle and it is stolen they can not claim for that either.
I think it's an absolute disgrace that the insurance company take their money and then don't cover them.
So warn your lads to read the small print and check it out carefully!

Re: Kit Insurance

Words fail me! The more I hear of whats going on with our troops the more a get despondent. Any insurance company will try to get out of a claim, but this is ridiculous!

Re: Kit Insurance

I think the insurance companies are in the wrong here... I lost a ring many years ago and tried to claim, it got refused and I wrote back aking why had I been paying premiums if they weren't going to pay out...I stood my ground and in the end after a couple of letters i got the payout in full....would it make any difference if they all persued the claim together(if they haven't done so already) If the van was locked they should have a valid claim I would have thought.....maybe they all need to ask for their last years premiums back ?

Re: Kit Insurance

This is the company that does all the military insurance, and they did go back to them. It's been to appeal and again been refused.
The lads are at the moment threatening to spread the word.
My son doesn't normally have a problem with them but he hasn't had anything stolen from a vehicle yet.
As you say though it's not the point, they are paying the premium year in and year out. Watch this space.
