  1. Why is this FAQ List being created?
Transsexualism is one of the most misunderstood phenomenon's in our culture today. Part of the problem is the terminology itself. There is nothing sexual about it. Transsexualism is about Gender, not about sex. Some have tried to change this by using an all inclusive term called Transgendered. Unfortunatley This term includes cross-dressers, and shemales and other categories which are as different as apples and oranges. This does not make any group better than the other, just Very different. Each group actually has Some things in common, but not others. Their goals are not always the same. Transsexualism is not a life-style choice. It is a medical birth defect which takes place in the mother's womb before birth. Believe me no one would want to go through the pain and suffering that this condition brings. Please feel free to ask questions and I will do my best to answer them. It is only through education and the dispelling of myths that we can truley understand each other. Laura Amato

  2. Aren't Transsexual's Deceiving people?
Transsexuals learn at an early age that they cannot be themselves and survive. They know they are bound to be hurt or killed if they are honest. The human right we all have to become ourselves is denied to Transsexuals. Imagine for a moment that you had to pretend for the rest of your life that your were someone you arn't, if you wanted to live. Deception for them means life. So they try hard, they honestly do to be what there physical body shows them to be. But there minds are the opposite of what they look like. This is torture and cruelty by any standard. Even actors can't act all of the time. Even if they come out in public they are subject to laws and prejudice that defies all humanity. Don't be cruel, be kind. Don't they deserve to be loved and cared about like anyone else? Its not their fault. They were BORN this way. If you were born with a birth defest would you be treated the way Transsexuals are? Of course not. Just let them be themselves. Who could ask for more.

  3. What is involved in Transition?
For a ( MTF) Male to Female Transsexual It mean Living the role of a woman from a year to two years dictated by the Doctor performing the Final Surgery. Voice and mannerisms must be learned and hormones are taken to alter the secondary characteristics such as breasts and shape. 200 hours of painful electrolysis are required to move the male beard and a name change will be required. Facial Feminization surgery may be performed. In the case of the (FTM) Female to Male, the breast are removed. Hormones are taken and the voice begins to change and the beard begins to grow and muscles start to develop. A proththisis amy be worn. A a name change will also be required as well as a role change. Once the doctor is satisfied that all the requirements have been met Final Surgery may be performed and the gender altered. Bear in mind that hormones can cause moodieness. The Transsexual goes through a second Puberty. To say that Transition can be stressful is an understatement. Usually after the transition is complete the risk of suicide drops dramatically.

  4. I was just wondering why a man would want his wife to have sex with a shemale? I am not trying to be cruel, but just trying to understand
Its a good question really. First of all the goal is to become a complete as possible member of the other gender. After taking hormones a transsexual is often in an in between stage before having the final surgery. Shemale status for a true Transsexual is in many cases (not all) of short duration. If they have sex at this time it is still an expression of love because they are the same people inside though physical changes have begun. Some couples stay together and some do not. Obviously this can cause problems for a couple. As my Significant Other (SO) says: She honestly can't imagine being with anyone else. Of course I am one of the lucky ones. We've learned to let go of the labels. Now after the surgery she could still change her mind, but so could I. I hope that Answers your question. Laura

  5. Do people always know at an early age that they are transsexual or can it happen when they are in the age's of 40's.
Latent Transsexualism is more common than you might think. Many transition in their 40's, 50's, and 60's. Most transsexuals have known from their first memories that their gender and bodies just didn't match. This is referred to as primary transsexualism. Others have a revelation in their 40's and 50's and suddenly feel the opposite gender. This is called secondary Transsexualism. This does not make your feelings any less legitimate. Don't forget though that after age 40 Testosterone naturally declines and Estogen raises slightly. Your best bet is to visit a Gender Specialist. http://lauras-playground.com/gender_therapists.htm Usually Intense therapy wil help you find the answers to your questions. At the very least any other possibilities can be ruled out. A complete physical at your age checking your hormone levels would be a good idea as well. Laura

  6. I am in the process of transition on hormones under dr.'s orders. When does the mind change, so you accept things the way GGs do? I have started thinking about other men and wondering if they would like me sometimes.
Its probably different for everybody. In my case it was about 3 months when I started noting subtle differences in my thinking. It started with a subtle change in Interests. I no longer liked sports or video games and developed an Interest in sewing. Gradually I became more domesticated. After a while i noticed that men looked different to me almost attractive. I still seem to be changing in little ways very gradually. How close my mind is to a GG's I'm not sure but I do like what's happening and I do like that its happening slowly.

  10. Besides Hormones are any other products helpful in feminizing. Transfemme is one I have been looking into.
Yes there are other products available. Some are rip off's and others may offer some light feminization. ONLY Prescription hormones obtained with a doctor's scripts will fully feminize you though. The Phoenix Project http://myevanesce.com/ is one of the more reputable companies. This one I can personally vouch for. I did achieve some slight feminization and calming effects from their products.

  12. How do I find a Doctor that will prescribe Hormones for me?
Most Doctors would require a letter from a Gender Therapist http://www.lauras-playground.com/gender_therapists.htm . This would be your first step. After several sessions and screening you for other conditions a therapists would provide a recommendation for hormones if you qualify. Any Endocrinologist can prescribe hormones for you but most will require the Therapist letter.

TG is for Transgendered and TS is for Transsexual which include MTF Male to female and FTM for female to male. Transgender is an umbrella term that includes Crossdressers, Transgenderists, Transsexuals, Androgynes And Intersexed individuals. A Transgenderist lives in the gender of the opposite sex. They are sometimes called "shemales" which is the porn industry term. They often get Facial feminization and body suregery and take hormones but will not get genital changing surgery. At Laura's PLayground we consider all Gender varied individuals to be Transgendered for the purposes of support.

  15. I was wondering why mtfs can't have babies , i mean they should have by know figured out a way to change the whole body so that they can have babies and really live as a female and expericence a period and birth.
Reproduction in Transsexuals is limited by their born birth gender. An MTF simply lacks the female organs required in giving birth. Transplant surgery is not yet ready for organ transplants that will function as intended. Hampering research is the fact that Their are not enough transsexuals to warrant the research since their numbers are small. One day this may be possible. While MTF's will have a functioning vagina after surgey FTM's will not have a functioning penis that can be used for more than urination. Improvements for ftm's howver have made some progress with mechanical assistance. Any transsexual wanting children should first bank their sperm or eggs in a medical facility as hormones make one sterile even before surgery. You are not alone in your desire though. Many transsexuals would jump at the chance to procreate and have children in their"TRUE" gender that they feel they are.

  16. i was just wondering, can a transexual (man to woman) marry a man? and can a transexual (woman to man) marry a woman?
It depends on the location and country where the birth certificate exists. In the Middle East and many Muslim countries it is considered a criminal offense. In Malaysia for instance a couple was arrested for marrying. In the United States in many states a Transsexual can have their birth certificates reflect their new gender after genital surgery has been performed. Then it no longer would be considered a same sex or gay marriage so yes they could marry. In Massachussetts a pre-op could marry as gay marriage is allowed there.

If temporary, at least at first, for how long would one expect to be sterile? How long would one have while taking hormones before permanent sterility? Thank you for any answers you can provide.
Hormones can make you sterile shortly after starting them in 3 months or less. This is true whether you take prescription hormones or some herbal remedies. After taking them sperm production starts to decline almost immediately. It can start to become permanent after 3 months for many Transsexuals. Those who stop taking hormones may get slight sperm production but it will be drastically reduced and weakened. Hormones though should never be used as a birth control method. Transsexuals or Transgender people who still want children should bank their sperm before starting hormones at a clinic designed for that purpose.

  18. If i were to take the hormones of an FTM would it change my appearance a whole lot? how would it make me look? I don't want to look ugly.
Taking Testosterone as an FTM would change your appearence. You would grow facial and body hair and your body would become more muscular. Also your voice would deepen to a lower register. Most FTM's would also opt to have their breasts removed. It is imprtant to be sure this is what you want as the effects are not easily reversible. Do be sure to discuss your desires with a therapist.
